I started painting in oils at the age of 14. I always found oils to be the medium that suited me best. Although encouraged to make art a career, I left school at 15 to earn a wage. I have attended art classes over the years, but am generally self-taught and am still making exciting mistakes......
As a boy, holidays were spent camping in Derbyshire’s countryside. I have never lost my love of the British landscape, be it in the hills or walking coastal paths. This will always be my inspiration and passion.
After a lively evening at a local restaurant I decided, at the age of 51, to hand in my notice and paint full-time. Being able to paint every day, and concentrate all of my efforts has been a joy and has led to a much freer style of painting. Everyday throws up something new and exciting. I hope my paintings leave something for the viewer to discover for themselves, and maybe take them to a place of pleasure................
